[지앤이타임즈] Korea East-West Power has completed the world’s first hydrogen fuel cell demonstration facility based on the’hydrogen electric vehicle’ technology.

On the 20th, East-West Power Co., Ltd., together with Hyundai Motor Company and Deokyang, held a non-face-to-face ‘1 ㎿-class polymer electrolyte hydrogen fuel cell system’ completion ceremony.

In order to raise the fuel cell localization rate to 99% and develop the optimal operating technology, East-West Power has signed a’Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Generation Demonstration Project Agreement’ in 2019 with Hyundai Motor Company and Deokyang, and a 1MW-class demonstration facility within the Ulsan Power Plant. Installed.

The hydrogen fuel cell system completed this time was developed as a pure domestic technology using Hyundai Motor’s hydrogen electric vehicle technology.

Deokyang supplies by-product hydrogen produced at the Ulsan petrochemical complex through a hydrogen pipeline network.

From the completion of this demonstration facility, East-West Power plans to perform various performance tests in connection with the transmission network for about two years, and complete the localization by 2022.

Currently, most of the fuel cells for power generation in Korea are based on foreign source technologies such as the United States, and the localization rate is low, and parts replacement and maintenance costs are high.

For this reason, if localization is successful, it is expected that local outflow will be prevented and the prices of fuel cells and hydrogen cars for power generation will fall due to mass production.

In particular, compared to foreign products, the load fluctuation ability is excellent, so it is expected that the fluctuations in power generation due to expansion of renewable energy will improve in the future.

“If the introduction of domestic facilities in the domestic large-capacity fuel cell market is expanded, the hydrogen economy will become more active,” said Il-joon Park, president of East-West Power.

Hyundai Motor Company’s President of Strategic Technology Division, Ji Young-jo, said, “We will try our best to prove the economic feasibility of the hydrogen fuel cell system through successful demonstration and contribute to the growth of the hydrogen industry and job creation.
