President Moon Jae-in said the Biden administration should succeed to the joint declaration of the Singapore talks, and that the US-Korea summit will be promoted early to resume dialogue with the US.

At the same time, he emphasized that Chairman Kim Jong-un’s will for peace and denuclearization is clear.

President Moon Jae-in mentioned the 2018 Singapore-North Korea talks seven times at a New Year’s press conference.

On the basis of what we have built with the Trump administration, we have repeatedly emphasized the need to resume North American dialogue.

Despite some concerns, the Biden administration expected to prioritize the issue of the Korean Peninsula after its inauguration.

In response, he announced that he would hurry to promote the Korea-US summit to mediate dialogue between the two countries.

[문재인 / 대통령 : 가능하면 조기에 한미 정상 간 교류를 보다 조기에 성사시켜서 양 정상 간 신뢰나 유대를 구축하는 것은 물론이고 이런 한반도 문제, 평화 프로세스에 대한 공감대를 재확인하고 싶습니다.]

He expressed confidence in the willingness of Chairman Kim Jong-un to denuclearize, saying that the plan to increase nuclear force, which North Korea repeatedly announced at the 8th Party Congress, was a result of the collapse of talks between the United States and North Korea.

[문재인 / 대통령 : 김정은 위원장의 어떤 평화에 대한 의지, 대화에 대한 의지, 그리고 비핵화에 대한 의지는 분명히 있다고 생각합니다.]

During the remainder of his tenure, he did not hide his expectations for the resumption of the inter-Korean summit and the return of Chairman Kim Jong-un.

[문재인 / 대통령 : 저는 언제 어디서든 김정은 위원장과 만날 용의가 있고, 그렇게 남북 정상 간의 만남이 지속되다 보면 그렇게 더 신뢰가 쌓이게 되면 언젠가 김정은 위원장이 남쪽으로 방문하는 답방도 이뤄지게 될 것이라고 그렇게 믿습니다.]

Resumption of ROK-US combined military training, which has emerged as an important test of inter-Korean relations this year, emphasized that it is an annual defense training.
