Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myeong said, “I thought once again how fortunate President Moon was in the position in the situation of a globally historic infectious disease crisis in 100 years” right after the New Year press conference of President Moon Jae-in.
On the 18th, Governor Lee said on his Facebook page, “The Moon Jae-in administration is a government built on the candlelight revolution. Reforms will continue to realize the people’s aspirations that lighted the harsh winter, and as Gyeonggi Province governor with 13.8 million residents, I will do my best,” he said.
Governor Lee said, “Today the President said, “I can do anything,” about the local government’s disaster subsidies, despite the recent quarrels of conservative press and candlelight reform disruptors.
He said, “I think that you understood and accepted Gyeonggi Province’s efforts to overcome the national crisis caused by Corona 19 and save people’s lives.”
Accordingly, Governor Lee emphasized that it will do the best possible economic quarantine and defense of people’s livelihoods that the financial capacity allows.
Governor Lee also said, “I fully agree with the special supply measures such as public redevelopment and station area development, and the lifelong housing philosophy, which President Moon once again spoke about. Gyeonggi Province is a high-quality basic housing that allows homeless citizens to live as much as they want. I will take the lead for realization.” In addition, he added that it will introduce basic loans to protect the financially underprivileged.
Governor Lee concluded, “Amid the deepening of the economic recession caused by Corona 19, the number of involuntary unemployed people surpassed 2 million for the first time. Gyeonggi Province will take the lead in protecting the people’s livelihood and economy so that President Moon’s idea can be realized.” .
President Moon said at a press conference held at the Cheongwadae Chunchugwan that day, when asked that’Governor Lee is considering a plan to pay 100,000 won for disaster assistance to Gyeonggi-do citizens’, he said, “The government support is not enough. Local governments’ work to supplement this is not enough. I think it can be done,” he answered positively.
In addition, President Moon announced that he would introduce’special measures’ for real estate supply such as public redevelopment, station area development, and new housing site development before the Lunar New Year holidays.
