In Japan, there has been a case of suspected commercial infection of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) mutant virus from the UK.

Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare announced on the 18th that three men and women in their 20s to 60s in Shizuoka Prefecture were infected with the corona 19 mutant virus confirmed in the UK.

None of the three people infected with the mutant virus originating from the UK have ever stayed in the UK, and no contact with anyone who has been in the UK has been confirmed. The Ministry of Health and Welfare believes that the mutation is highly likely to have been transferred from an unspecified infected person with Corona 19.

Takaji Wakita, head of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, said at a press conference that day, “We are investigating whether there is an outbreak of commercial infection.”

According to the local public broadcaster NHK, this is the first time that two Tokyo residents who returned from the UK on the 25th of last month were infected with the mutant virus and have been confirmed to be infected with the mutant virus from the UK.

Meanwhile, NHK announced that as of 8:30 pm on the same day, 4,904 new cases of Corona 19 in Japan were counted. The cumulative number of confirmed cases reached 33,6156, and the number of deaths increased to a total of 4596, adding 58.

The number of confirmed cases per day fell below the 5000 mark in six days, but due to the decrease in the number of tests on weekends, the number of confirmed cases was lower than other days, hitting the 7th week’s highest on Monday.
