Samsung Electronics opened’Samsung Galaxy Unpack 2021′ at midnight on the 15th and unveiled its strategic smartphone’Galaxy S21′ and wireless earphone’Galaxy Buzz Pro’ for the first half of the year. The factory price of the Galaxy S21 is 999,900 won, which is 240,000 won cheaper than the previous Galaxy S20. It is interpreted as a strategy to dig into the vacancy of Chinese rival Huawei, which has been stagnated by US sanctions. The disappearance of mobile phone chargers and earphones provided in the existing package also contributed to lowering the factory price.

The Galaxy S21 series consists of three types: △6.2-inch Galaxy S21 (999,000 won) △6.7-inch Galaxy S21 Plus (1199,000 won) △6.8-inch Galaxy S21 Ultra (256GB 1.452,000 won, 512GB 1,599,000 won) done. Among them, the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the top model, supports the’S Pen’ for the first time in the S series, and features a 180 million pixel camera and high-definition display.
It has been three years since the Galaxy S9 that Samsung Electronics’ flagship smartphone base model was set at less than 1 million won. The release schedule of the Galaxy S21 has also been advanced by more than a month. Samsung Electronics has been following the practice of product announcements in February and releases in March. In the industry, it is speculated that Samsung Electronics made a “winner” to check Apple’s first 5G smartphone’iPhone 12′ and to preempt the vacancy of Huawei, China, which is struggling with US trade sanctions.
According to market research firm Strategy Analytics (SA), this year’s 5G smartphone market is estimated to be at 600 million won, more than doubled from last year. Apple sold 52.3 million units in the first three months of the iPhone 12 launch in October, lightly surpassing Samsung Electronics’ total sales of 41 million units in 2020.
It is analyzed that the disappearance of mobile phone chargers and earphones provided as services in the existing package also contributed to lowering the factory price.
According to industry practice, the unit cost of a charger delivered to a manufacturer is about $3. Considering the shipments of Samsung Electronics (254.9 million units) estimated by SA last year, it means that an average of 800 million dollars can be saved. Including a reduction in transportation costs due to the weight reduction of the package will further increase the proportion of cost reduction.
Market research firm 〈Trend Force〉 also inferred that “the cost of manufacturing smartphones is increasing due to 5G support” over Apple’s decision to not include a charger in October last year. .

One of the biggest features of the Galaxy S21 is its improved camera performance. Video shooting and editing functions for vloggers are also included. “The Galaxy S21 series has professional camera performance,” said Roh Tae-moon, president of Samsung Electronics’ wireless business division, at the unpack event. “From everyday records to professionals, you can take satisfactory photos with only one Galaxy S21.”
The Galaxy S21 series is capable of recording high-definition 8K videos, and when capturing, it is possible to record a photo at 33 megapixels. The Ultra model is equipped with an autofocus (AF) sensor, which automatically adjusts the distance to the subject in real time. Close-up subjects can be photographed at a minimum distance of 5 cm, and the’Director’s View’ function is also supported, which takes pictures while switching the screen to telephoto, wide-angle, and ultra-wide camera angles.
In the Galaxy S21 series, the’portrait mode’ has also been enhanced. The new product comes with a beam of light and various lighting effects as standard, and you can select a color through the’Selfie Mode’. If you use the microphone of the wireless earphone’Galaxy Buzz Pro’ at the same time while shooting, you can record the user’s voice and background sound in a photo.
The appearance of the camera was also improved. The camera protrusion phenomenon that the camera module of the previous work, the Galaxy S20, protruded to the height of 2-3 credit cards, has been improved. As the lenses are also arranged in a vertical direction, the shortcomings of the previous work, which were criticized as’induction cameras’, were also complemented.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S21 series will be officially released on the 29th after making advance reservations until the 21st. ‘Galaxy Buzz Pro’ will also be released in three colors: Phantom Black, Phantom Silver and Phantom Violet on the same day. The factory price of the Galaxy Buzz Pro is 239,800 won.
