S21 Ultra, 120Hz refresh rate, S Pen function support
Samsung Electronics unveiled the Galaxy S21 series, which greatly enhanced the camera function. The product was released as it leaked in advance. It is up to 250,000 won cheaper than the previous work. This new product, which was released one month earlier than usual due to the worldwide popularity of the iPhone 12 series, focuses on’function enhancement’ and’cost reduction’.
Samsung Electronics held the Samsung Galaxy Unpack 2021 event online on the 15th and released three types of Galaxy S21.
The Galaxy S21 series is divided into △basic model, △plus model, and △ultra model. The Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus have 6.2-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively. The ultra model is released with a 6.8-inch display.
The S21 series is an application processor (AP), an important component, and is the first Samsung flagship to mount a 5-nano (nm) processor to enhance multitasking performance. Depending on the country of release, Samsung Electronics’ Exynos 2100 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 will be installed respectively.
The Exynos 2100, which is installed in the domestic model, is a product with 30% and 40% improvement in the performance of the central processing unit (CPU) and graphic processing unit (GPU), respectively, compared to the previous model. Artificial intelligence (AI) performance was also improved by mounting a neural network processing unit (NPU) capable of 26 trillion times per second (26 TOPS).
The most striking thing in the S21 series is the’camera’ function. In the case of video shooting, after shooting an 8K video, it is possible to record a clear photo of 33 million pixels through capture. Using Director’s View, you can shoot simultaneously with the front and rear cameras. It shows various angles of telephoto, wide-angle and ultra-wide cameras on one screen. You can shoot while changing the screen naturally.
Multi-mic recording is also supported in pro video mode. When shooting with the Galaxy S21 series, the microphone of the wireless earphone Galaxy Buzz Pro can be used as a wireless microphone. You can clearly record the user’s voice and the surrounding background sound at the same time.
The improved space zoom function is also noticeable. The S21 and S21 Plus can shoot up to 3x through hybrid optical zoom and up to 30x with AI-based super resolution zoom.
The Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus are equipped with a 12-megapixel dual-pixel wide-angle camera, a 64 million-pixel telephoto camera, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle rear camera. On the front, a 10-megapixel dual-pixel camera was mounted.
The Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus are equipped with a dynamic AMOLED 2X display. It also added a function that automatically adjusts the refresh rate up to 120Hz depending on the content.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra boasts high performance at an expensive price. It supports up to 120Hz refresh rate in Quad HD+ quality. The refresh rate is automatically adjusted from 10Hz to 120Hz depending on the content. It is 25% brighter than the previous work and supports 50% improved contrast ratio. With 1500 nits, you can enjoy a clear screen even outdoors.
Ultra can achieve the best results with professional-grade camera features and performance. It is equipped with a 180-megapixel camera, so it can be recorded as vividly as it is. In the pro mode using a wide-angle camera, it is possible to save as a 12-bit RAW (low loss shooting) file.
It is possible to shoot 4K video at 60fps (frames per second) using all five cameras on the front and rear. You can shoot videos of the same 4K quality by using various cameras.
The Ultra model is equipped with a △180 million ultra-high-pixel wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a rear quad camera of two 10 million-pixel dual-pixel telephoto cameras, and a 40-megapixel front camera. For the first time in a Galaxy smartphone, a dual optical lens system of 3x and 10x, respectively, is mounted in a dual folded form.
The Ultra model also supports the’S Pen’ function that only Galaxy Note has. It is the first of the Galaxy S series to support the S21 Ultra. You can enjoy the experience of the S Pen, from drawing to taking notes and editing fine photos. Samsung Electronics is planning to introduce two new cover accessories including the S Pen.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra supports Wi-Fi 6E with wider bandwidth and faster internet speed. Equipped with dual Bluetooth antennas, various connected devices such as the Galaxy Buds Pro are connected stably, reducing battery consumption.
The Galaxy S21 discarded a lot to cut costs. The microSD memory card slot has disappeared from the S21 series. The charger and wired earphones included in the basic components are not provided.
The S21 series will be released sequentially in the global market starting on the 29th. In Korea, advance reservations are made from the 15th to the 21st, and it will be officially released on the 29th.
The Galaxy S21 comes in four colors: Phantom Gray, Phantom White, Phantom Violet, and Phantom Pink. The Galaxy S21 Plus is released in four colors: Phantom Black, Phantom Silver, Phantom Violet, and Phantom Pink. Ultra models are available in Phantom Black and Phantom Silver. When purchasing an ultra model from Samsung.com, you can choose from three colors that are sold exclusively. The colors are Phantom Titanium, Phantom Navy, and Phantom Brown.
The S21 and S21 Plus are released in models with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory. The price is 99,000 won and 1199,000 won, respectively. The S21 Ultra is released in a model with 12GB of RAM, 256GB of internal memory, and 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal memory. The price is 1.45 million won and 1.59,900 won, respectively.
