[전국]Endless worker death accidents “No improvement in the Severe Disaster Act”

Although the Law on Punishment for Companies with Serious Accidents passed through the National Assembly after labor, unfortunate worker deaths have been continuing.

The labor community pointed out that safety measures at industrial sites are not improving as laws that are regressed from the purpose of enactment are created.

A police control ship was installed in front of the building where construction was underway.

A daily worker in her 60s fell from a height of 13m and died.

Police say the dead worker crashed while moving a four-ton facility lifted by a crane from the height of the third floor of the building.

The accident caused the facility to move rapidly into the building, causing two other workers to injure their faces and chest.

As a result of police investigation, an accident occurred when some of the strapping devices were loosened, but it was found that there was no safety device at the site to prevent the fall.

On the 8th, the Law on the Punishment of Companies in Severe Accidents passed the National Assembly, but workers’ accidents are continuing unchanged.

On the 11th, at an auto parts factory in Changwon, Gyeongnam, an employee of a subcontractor in their 40s was caught in a facility and fell into an unconscious state.

While the police investigation is underway, the union claims that a major disaster occurred due to the management’s lack of safety management, while the company said it was not true.

Earlier, at a plastic recycling plant in Gwangju and a company in the Yeosu Industrial Complex in Jeollanam-do, two people were killed in an accident involving workers.

The labor community pointed out that as the Severe Disaster Penalty Act was passed in half, it was hard to feel the tension about enhancing safety in industrial sites.

The Serious Disaster Penalty Act is expected to come into effect one year after the promulgation, but if the number of deaths of workers does not decrease during this period, the voice of the law amendment is expected to increase.
