[이데일리 스타in 임정우 기자] Lim Seong-jae (23) recorded 2 under par on the first day of the US Professional Golf (PGA) Tour Sony Open (total prize money of 6.6 million dollars).

Lim Sung-jae hit a 2-under par 68 in the first round of the tournament held at the Waialay Country Club (par 70) in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA on the 15th (Korean time). Im Seong-jae, who reduced two strokes by writing down two buddies without looking, was tied for 43rd place with Chez Libby and Wesley Bryan (above America) at 10:40 am. It is six shots against the sole leader Peter Malnaty (USA).

Im Seong-jae, who started 2021 with a tie for fifth place in the Century Tournament of Champions, is aiming to enter the top 5 for the second consecutive week in this tournament. Im Seong-jae couldn’t reduce the number of at-bats this day, but showed a good performance by writing a two-under par.

Lim Sung-jae, who started the game on hole 10, scored pars in all nine holes without a look in the first half. The first buddy that was waiting came out of the first hole. He calmly grabbed the birdie and put the first button in the second half. Im Seong-jae, who had a glimpse of the opportunity while continuing the par march, showed his concentration once again in the last 9th hole. He caught the second buddy that day and completed the 2 under par.

Lim Seong-jae showed a sharp shot feeling of 78.57% of the fairway landing rate and 88.89% of the green hit rate. The play on the green was disappointing. He had a hard time reducing at-bats on the green with -2.174 at-bats cut by putt. Lim Seong-jae, who started this tournament with a two-under par, sets out to raise the ranking on the second day.

Malnati, who hit an 8-under-par 62, was in the lead alone. Malnaty, who blocked only one bogie and caught nine birdies, defeated Von Taylor and Jim Herman (above the United States) by two shots and captured the top of the leaderboard.
