11% growth compared to the previous year… Samsung (65%), Apple (22%), LG (12%)

This year, the domestic smartphone market is expected to reach 19 million units, an increase from last year.
According to Counterpoint Research on the 14th, the domestic smartphone market this year is expected to grow 11% year-on-year to reach 19 million units. Demand for pent-ups, suppressed by the corona, is expected to increase. In addition to the popularization of 5G mobile communication (5G) smartphones, new form factor (device type) products such as foldables are expected to stimulate replacement demand.
Stabilization of 5G service quality and promotion of price cuts by domestic carriers are also expected to have a positive effect. The proportion of 5G smartphones is expected to increase significantly from 49% last year to 87% this year.
After the release of the Galaxy S21 series, which will be unveiled on the 15th, Samsung Electronics is planning to release foldable phones at various price points this year, making efforts to popularize new form factor phones. It is expected to maintain a 65% market share, similar to that of last year. Apple is expected to expand slightly from the previous year’s 21% market share in the domestic market this year by strengthening its lineup including the iPhone 12 series, the first 5G smartphone released at the end of last year, as well as the iPhone SE 3G and iPhone 13 series.
LG Electronics, which is struggling due to low sales of new products such as Velvet and Wing, is expected to remain in the early 10% range this year. The rollable phone, which was recently unveiled at CES2021, is likely to be released in the first half of this year.
