Home robots, rollable phones, virtual humans, etc.
Leading by Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, Korean companies showed off their technology at’CES 2021′.
It is evaluated that it has led CES in all areas of future new technologies, from home appliances and smartphones to artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and mobility (transportation means), preemptively responding to the major changes caused by Corona 19.
However, it is also regrettable that the box office effect has declined due to the online hosting, such as not introducing completely new products or technologies.

◇ Samsung·LG, home appliances evolving to AI
Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics broke the stereotype of a home appliance company and proposed a’global standard’ that utilizes advanced technologies such as AI.
Home appliances such as TVs, refrigerators, and vacuum cleaners are equipped with advanced AI and IoT functions to show a new look at home and daily, which has become more important due to Corona 19.
Samsung’s robot cleaner equipped with Intel’s AI solution for the first time in the world, LG Electronics’ wearable air cleaning mask, and the world’s first rollable phone (smart phone that rolls up and closes) were greatly illuminated by domestic and international media.
In the TV and display field, Samsung Electronics introduced next-generation technologies such as micro LED TVs, LG’s sound and bendable OLEDs, transparent OLEDs, and next-generation OLED panels with improved performance.

The mini LED TV that Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics launched as a strategic new product this year was also a hot topic. Chinese companies first introduced mini LED TVs last year, but Samsung and LG, which have advanced technology, are expected to lead the market.
At the annual CES event, it was confirmed that Chinese and Japanese companies are pursuing Korea, but the fact that it was difficult to confirm the technological gap when it was opened online this year is a regret for Korean companies.

In addition, some pointed out whether it is a technology stagnation as Samsung and LG do not announce completely new products and technologies, but remain at the level of showing upgrades of previously disclosed products and technologies. However, in reality, it seems that it has focused more on introducing software technologies such as AI due to the limitation of all online events.
An industry insider said, “From a few years ago, CES is turning into a competitive field for who implements new technologies such as AI more concretely and in depth rather than surprise announcements of technologies or hardware that are far from commercialization.” As it sells, Korean companies are breaking down industry boundaries and making software a more differentiated point.”

◇ Mobility feast on eco-friendly car wind… Samsung·LG electric drive
At this year’s CES, mobility (transportation) was completely positioned as an axis of the event.
Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics showed their presence as new growth engines by presenting new technologies and visions for the electronics business at this year’s CES.
Samsung and Harman International, a subsidiary of electronic parts, have unveiled’Digital Cockpit 2021′, an electronic part composed of digital electronic devices.
LG Electronics held a briefing session with Magna International, the world’s third-largest auto parts maker, which is a joint venture partner for electric vehicle powertrain, and said, “We will become a leading supplier in the automobile industry, one of the key power sources in the future.”
In addition,’Aluto’, a joint venture established by LG Electronics and global software company Looksoft, will be launched on the 27th of this month. Aluto plans to provide an integrated infotainment (a compound word for information and entertainment) system for vehicles.

GS Caltex, which is trying to change from a refinery to a comprehensive energy and mobility company, introduced a futuristic gas station, and Mando, an auto parts maker, introduced a’free-mounted advanced driving system’.
Korean SMEs and startups also came out with technologies such as AI, robots, autonomous driving, and non-face-to-face treatment.
According to the Korea Information and Communication Technology Industry Association, 345 Korean companies participated in this year’s CES. Among the 386 products and technologies that won the innovation award, 100 were won by Korean companies.
An industry insider said, “There was a regret that the event was held online and the box office effect was less, but Korean companies were active in all fields, proving that it is an electronic and IT powerhouse leading the new normal era brought by Corona 19.”
