SK Telecom is planning to release a 5G plan that is 30% cheaper than the existing rate the day after tomorrow.

Competitors such as KT and LG Uplus are also expecting to reduce the burden of communication costs as they have decided to release tariff plans with lower prices.

Reporter Jeong Jin-wook took a closer look.

Communication costs are a considerable burden for living in a difficult situation due to Corona 19.

“It’s because the price is so expensive that the whole family goes over 100,000 won and 200,000 won.”

In particular, with the introduction of 5G services, rates have increased again, and the burden has increased.

“It’s good because there is a lot of data, but (5G) is a little expensive…”

In response to the problem of high communication rates in various fields, including the politics, SK Telecom introduced a cheaper rate plan last month than before.

According to the new plan approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology today, the existing 55,000 won to 38,000 won, 75,000 won to 52,000 won, and the unlimited data rate system that was close to 90,000 won. It is lowered to 60,000 won.

All are 30% cheaper than before.

However, activation is not possible through an agency and must be done online.

Now, in order to receive the rate discount, you must have a contract of use of at least one year, but the new plan is 3-4 thousand won cheaper than this contracted rate.

“I honestly wish there were no contracts. With that, you have to pay a penalty even if you want to change your mobile phone and carrier in the middle.”

KT and LG Uplus will soon release similar mid- to low-priced rates, and as the three telecommunications companies decide to lower the cost of using the communication network that they lend to the affordable phone service provider, the price of the affordable phone is expected to become cheaper.

However, if telecommunications companies provide separate discounts to agencies or illegally pay handset subsidies to new smartphones, the effect of the new rate plan may disappear.
