Short selling, which was halted on the stock market for one year due to the Corona 19 incident last year, is being pushed to resume in March.

The financial authorities are making sure that short selling is allowed to resume, but there is controversy as Donghak ants and some political circles are calling for an extension of the ban on short selling.

With the KOSPI surpassing 3,000 and the stock market is showing a strong market, Donghak Ant and the financial authorities are showing confrontation over the resumption of short selling in March.

Short selling is an investment strategy in which if the stock price of a particular stock is expected to decline, you can borrow stock and place a sell order without holding the stock.

Donghak ants insisted on extending the ban on short selling, which is beneficial only to foreigners and institutions, and more than 100,000 petitions were filed in the Blue House.

Donghak ants insist on strengthening the penalties for non-borrowing short selling as individual investors suffer damage due to weak penalties by financial authorities for non-borrowing short selling by institutions and foreigners.

However, the financial authorities plan to end the ban on short selling, which had been suspended for the past year due to the Corona 19 incident, as scheduled on March 15.

The Financial Services Commission announced that before the resumption of short selling, it will strengthen the system, such as strengthening the punishment for illegal short selling, improving the market maker system, and enhancing individual access to short selling.

Even among stock market experts, there is a position that short selling needs to be resumed.
