Seoul National University Hospital and Seoul National University Hospital decided to establish a’Seoul Disaster Hospital’ to secure a dedicated bed for severely ill patients with novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) and to promptly treat it.

This hospital is built on the site of a comprehensive medical facility in Wonji-dong, Seocho-gu, and is scheduled to open at the end of March at the latest.

A modular bed for severely ill patients with negative pressure facilities, etc., will be built in a scale of 48, and if the corona 19 situation improves and the number of severely ill patients decreases, it may be converted to 96 normal corona 19 beds.

There were cases where temporary beds were installed on idle sites in hospitals, but it was the first attempt to install a temporary hospital with beds only for the treatment of Corona 19 on a separate site, the Seoul City explained.

The city of Seoul provides the site necessary for the installation for a limited time, free of charge, and the Seoul National University Hospital is in charge of the establishment to bear the cost and medical staff. Seoul National University Hospital has devised a plan to finance the cost of establishment and operation through government funding.

The head of the Seoul Disaster Hospital opening preparation department was assumed by Cho Young-min, the head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Seoul National University Hospital.

The city explained that the Wonji-dong site, where the relocation of the National Medical Center was originally discussed, is already designated as a’comprehensive medical facility (urban planning facility)’, so it will be possible to promote it quickly.

Seoul National University Hospital Mayor Seo Jeong-hyup and Seoul National University Hospital Director Kim Yeon-soo signed a’business agreement for the establishment of Seoul Disaster Hospital’ with these details at 3 pm on the 12th.

The two organizations have continued to cooperate in securing beds and treating patients since December last year through the’Seoul Disaster Medical Council’, a public-private governance for a rapid infectious disease response system.

“It is a very meaningful day when the public and the public join hands to open a new path for public medical quarantine,” said Seo Jeong-hyup, the agency’s authority. “Seoul City will generously support the establishment process as soon as possible.”
