[에너지데일리 변국영 기자] Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, the midship holding company of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, is continuing to win orders at the beginning of this year.

Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering recently signed a contract with a European shipping company to build two 300,000-ton ultra-large crude oil carriers (VLCCs) worth about 200 billion won.

As a result, Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering announced its first order order on the 5th of the year, for a week, a total of 11 vessels including 6 super-sized container ships, 1 LNG carrier, 1 LPG ship, 1 PC ship, and 2 VLCCs, about 1.3 trillion It succeeded in winning orders worth KRW billion.

The ship that was ordered this time is 330m long, 60m wide, and 29.7m high. It can respond to environmental regulations by installing a scrubber, an exhaust gas reduction device. It is expected to be built at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan and delivered to shipowners sequentially from the first half of 2022.

Korea Offshore & Shipbuilding has won 27 orders, 65% of the total 41 ultra-large crude oil carriers ordered from around the world last year.

An official from Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering said, “We are looking forward to the recovery of the global ordering market, which had been stagnant as orders for various types of ships have been continuing since the beginning of this year.”

Clarkson Research, an analysis agency for shipbuilding shipping market conditions, predicted that an average of 43 vessels will be placed annually from this year to 2025 in the case of super-sized crude oil carriers at the Clarkson Postcast Club announced in September last year.
