Japan, “Keep watching the North Korean trend” in the appointment of Kim Jong-un as general secretary

The Japanese government said that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was watching the internal trends of North Korea regarding his appointment as party general secretary at the 8th Korean Workers’ Party Congress.

According to the Mainichi Shimbun, Japanese government spokesman Kato Katsunobu, at a regular briefing on the 12th, responded to a question about the party conference in North Korea. “We will keep an eye on what it means to this conference,” he replied.

North Korea changed the title of Chairman Kim from’Chairperson’ to’General Secretary’ at the Labor Party conference that opened on the 6th of this month. The Labor Party’s general secretary is the party title used by Chairman Kim Il-sung, his grandfather, and his father Kim Jong-il, the National Defense Commission.

North Korea also identified the United States as the “largest enemy” in the conference’s business meeting, while also making it clear that it would continue to develop advanced weapons, including tactical nuclear weapons.

Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi said, “We will do our best to collect and analyze information on the military trends in North Korea.” In order to realize (CVID), it is important for the entire international community to fully implement the UN Security Council resolutions.”

In the meantime, the Japanese government has a policy of continuing to use the’Chairman’ as before, despite the change in the title of Chairman Kim in the Labor Party. Minister Kato explained the reason, “Kim (Kim Jong-un) continues to hold the title of’Chairman of the State Council’ as the title of the North Korean authorities.”

Until now, the Japanese side has used this as the official title within the government, as Chairman Kim’s title in the Labor Party is’Chairperson’.
