■ The first online CES ever…Korea’s greater presence than China
CES, which has been held in Las Vegas every January since 1967, will be held online for the first time this year in the aftermath of a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).
Because of this, this year’s event has been cut in half from the previous year. CES is a large-scale global event with more than 4,400 companies participating as of last year, but less than 2,000 companies participated this year.
In particular, the number of Chinese companies that had dominated every year has drastically decreased. In China, where 1,368 companies participated last year, the number fell to 203 this year. Huawei, one of the leading Chinese companies, is also absent. On the other hand, 341 companies from Korea will participate in CES 2021, the second largest after the United States (567).
That is why Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are actually leading CES 2021 this year.
Samsung Electronics will participate this year with the theme of’Better Daily Life for All’. LG Electronics said,’A precious daily life continues. We plan to introduce new technologies with the phrase’Enjoy your home life comfortably with LG’.
The two companies also hold a press conference on the first day of the opening, as in previous years. LG Electronics will hold a conference at 8 am (10 pm Korean time on the 11th) and Samsung Electronics at 9 am (11 pm Korean time on the 11th).
■ New display technology feast this year
Prior to the official opening of CES 2021, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics held a mini LED TV public event, attracting attention. Samsung Electronics introduced a new mini LED TV’Neo QLED’ through’First Look 2021′ on the 7th, and LG Electronics announced a new mini LED TV product’LG QNED’ at the end of last month.

Following last year, various robots are expected to appear at CES this year. Not only robot companies, but also large corporations such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are introducing robots.
