[LA=스포츠서울 문상열전문기자] Pitchers dominate the major league advances of Korean players. These are MLB success stories, including Park Chan-ho and Kim Byeong-hyun, active players Ryu Hyun-jin, and Kim Gwang-hyun.
In 2021, beast Kim Ha-sung will be on the MLB stage. He received the highest amount of all Korean players and advanced. In the professional world, salary doesn’t mean success. It’s a matter of pride. If you receive a large sum, the burden will be large. Can Beast Ha-seong Kim succeed in a soft landing at the San Diego Padres in the Western District of the National League? As a 26-year-old young player, the chances of success are high.
▶The success of the beasts who did not go through the KBO league
Beasts that entered the MLB can be divided into overseas direct and KBO leaguers. Hee-seop Choi was the first beast to step on the MLB stage. While attending Korea University, he signed a contract with the Chicago Cubs. Following Choi Hee-seop, Choo Shin-soo and Choi Ji-man stood on the MLB stage by knocking right on the US door. These are the beasts of successful cases in MLB. Hee-seop Choi also made three home runs in one game during the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Choo Shin-soo recorded an all-time high of 130 million dollars (141.9 billion won) in annual salary in Korean professional history. He played in 1652 matches, batting 0.275 home runs and 218 RBIs, recording 782. After graduating from Busan High School, he became a legend by stepping on the American soil with the dream of Chungwoon. Choi Ji-man, from Dongsan High School, did not receive much attention from the domestic amateur community. Choo Shin-soo, a former pitcher, had proven his amateur skills. Choi’s challenge to MLB is his indomitable will to be a model for his juniors.
The beasts from the KBO league are Jung-ho Kang, Byeong-ho Park, Hyun-soo Kim, Dae-ho Lee, Jae-gyun Hwang, and Ha-seong Kim. Kang Jung-ho, who entered the first MLB as a KBO league beast, succeeded in a soft landing. His drinking luck problem ruined his baseball life, but he hit 46 homers in 297 games as an infielder. Lee Dae-ho, who returned to the KBO league after a short season of experience, is half successful. In 104 games, he batted 0.253 home runs and 14 RBIs, leaving 49 runs. Park Byeong-ho, Kim Hyun-soo, and Hwang Jae-gyun, who challenged the big leagues, are failures.
As for the name value, the person from the KBO league was gorgeous. However, if they entered the US immediately after becoming an amateur, the chances of success were high. Of course, there are some players who gained attention when joining the team but disappeared quietly after being active only in the minor leagues. For others, adaptation is a problem.

▶Pitcher and beast are different
The best pitcher in the KBO League also works in the MLB. But the beast was different. The reason is adaptation. After Kim Ha-Sung joined San Diego, the point that came out was whether he could hit the 155 km fast ball. In an interview with Zoom, a Korean reporter asked this question to General Manager AJ Freller. In fact, he is paying attention to the fact that he did not often experience a fast ball over 155km in the KBO league, and that he was unable to attack the fast ball of foreign pitchers.
The pitcher is in any league when he throws his ball. If the restraint is supported to some extent and the so-called borderline pitching is perfect, even MLB batters from the world can attack. The batter must take time to prepare for a large, sharp ball that falls on a fast ball.

▶The key to Kim Ha-Sung’s soft landing is
The driving force behind Kang Jung-ho’s adaptation to MLB pitchers’ fast balls was the compact swing. Home-run hitter Park Byeong-ho had no choice but to give up because he couldn’t fix the problem with his swing. Ha-seong Kim also seems to need to supplement his swing mechanics. “Compact swing is also important,” said Kim Yong-dal, batting coach of Samsung Lions. Ha-Sung Kim is now 26 years old and has a positive mindset. It is easy to adapt,” he said, showing a very optimistic view of the MLB soft landing. It is a success if you perform as much as Jung-ho Kang as an infielder.
