Samjung Tech (CEO Choi Jong-wan), the first in Korea to develop a triple-effect gas direct-fired absorption cold and hot water heater, a low-temperature water driven adsorption chiller, and a hybrid adsorption chiller, also developed a high-efficiency solar hybrid absorption cooling system that can be used in four seasons.
Solar energy is used for summer cooling, and during off-summer heating and hot water supply without a separate auxiliary heat source system, a solar collector system and one hybrid absorption chiller and hot water heater are used. The system cost is cheaper and more efficient than the existing solar cooling system. Stable air conditioning and hot water supply can be used.

An official of Samjoong Tech said, “The solar hot water supply system is not only damaged due to overheating in the summer, but also lacks solar heat in winter, cloudy days, and rainy weather, so an auxiliary heat source is essential.” As a result, there was a limit to the supply because of the excessive cost and low COP and the need for an auxiliary heat source especially for the rainy season.”
The official said, “Samjung Tech’s high-efficiency solar hybrid absorption cooling system is a multi-energy and four-season solar cooling and heating technology that simultaneously uses both solar and gas sources.” “Expanding the role of solar heat in the government’s policy to activate nuclear power plants and renewable energy. It is a product that can supplement the existing shortcomings.”
Solving the problem of existing solar heat sources
Samjung Tech’s high-efficiency solar hybrid absorption cooling system was developed in consideration of economic feasibility according to the domestic weather environment and load conditions, and obtained NET new technology certification. It is designed to use a solar heat source within 40% of the cooling load, which occupies the most part in the domestic cooling load area, so it has excellent economic efficiency.
In the case of a cooling and heating system using an existing low-temperature water chiller, auxiliary heat source equipment such as a boiler is unconditionally required in preparation for cloudy and rainy weather. However, Samjung Tech’s solar hybrid absorption cooling and heating system is evaluated as a highly efficient eco-friendly device designed to enable the most efficient operation according to weather conditions and indoor load by using solar hot water and city gas simultaneously with one equipment.
If solar radiation is sufficient and the indoor cooling load is less than 40%, it is operated using only solar hot water, and if the indoor load is more than 40%, city gas and hot water are used at the same time. When it is impossible to produce solar hot water depending on the weather, it is designed to automatically switch all operations by providing three driving modes that allow cooling operation using city gas.
In addition, the adsorption chiller developed and commercialized by Samjung Tech is capable of cooling operation using a low-temperature heat source of around 70℃ unlike the absorption system, and has excellent economical efficiency as it uses little power compared to the absorption chiller. In particular, it can be applied to solar heat utilization systems using PVT (solar/thermal complex module), which has been actively developed worldwide.
An official of Samjoong Tech said, “The PVT system has a problem of overheating and damage due to the excess heat source in the summer. When connected with an adsorption chiller, damage caused by system overheating is prevented and the system economy is excellent by utilizing the excess heat source for cooling.” “Accordingly, when applying a zero-energy system using PVT, it is highly utilized as a highly efficient eco-friendly air conditioner that utilizes a low-power, low-temperature water surplus heat source.”
