Im Seong-jae (23, CJ Logistics) continued to compete for the lead on the third day of the ‘Wang Jung-wang’ tournament, in which US professional golf (PGA) tour champions participate.
Im Seong-jae in the 3rd round of the PGA Tour Century Tournament of Champions (total prize money of $6.7 million) held at the Kapalua Resort Plantation Course (par 73, 7596 yards) in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii, USA on the 10th (Korean time), 1 Eagle and 5 Birdies. I tied a dog and a bogie and wrote 67 strokes at 6 under par.
Lim Sung-jae was tied for fifth place with Justin Thomas of the United States with a median total of 17 under par 202. It is only 4 shots from the joint lead group (21 under par 198).
Lim Seong-jae, who participated in the Honda Classic championship in March last year, continued his good performance until the third round. From the first tournament in 2021, it has been able to steadily maintain the top ranks, and to win the final round.
Lim Seong-jae started off happily, catching the Eagle in the 5th hole (par 5). After putting the second shot on the green, he calmly made a 7.2m Eagle putt.
In the 8th hole (par 3), the tee shot fell into the rough, and there was also a bogus. However, he made up with a birdie on the 9th hole (par 5) and began to reduce the number of strokes in earnest in the second half.
Lim Seong-jae raised the ranking by catching 3 consecutive birdies from hole 14 (par 4) to hole 16 (par 4).
On the 17th hole (par 4), the second shot could not be placed close to the hole cup, but it was blocked with a par. Then, at the last hole 18 (par 5), a birdie was added and the round ended happily.
Harris English (US) and Ryan Palmer (US) took the lead with 21 under par 198. English aims to win in about 7 years and 2 months since the OHL Classic in November 2013, and Palmer aims to win in 1 year and 9 months after the Zurich Classic in April 2019.
Colin Morikawa (USA) was in third place with 199 strokes at a 20-under par, and Daniel Burger (USA) was in fourth place with 201 strokes at an 18-under par. Dustin Johnson (USA), ranked first in the world, is a tie for 10th with 14 under par 205 strokes, and Bryson Dishambo (USA) is a tie for 16th with 13 under par 206 strokes.
