The lowest temperature in the morning in Seoul on the 8th fell to -18.6 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest day in the 2000s. According to the observation record of the Meteorological Administration, the lowest temperature in the morning in Seoul was 18.6 degrees below zero at 8:2 am on the day. This is the lowest temperature in the 2000s on January 15, 2001, equal to -18.6 degrees Celsius. It is 2.1 degrees lower than the previous day’s minus 16.5 degrees. The perceived temperature dropped to -25.4 degrees below zero at 8:34 am.
Daejeon and Gwangju also recorded the coldest days in 20 years. Daejeon was observed at 17.5 degrees below zero at 6:10 am on the same day, exceeding the previous record of -17.4 degrees on January 15, 2001, and 13.5 degrees below zero at 5:26 am in Gwangju, as of January 15, 2001. It was a whopping 1 degree lower than 12.5 degrees below zero. Busan, Daegu and Incheon also recorded -12.2 degrees below zero, 13.6 degrees below zero, and 17.5 degrees below zero, making it the second coldest day in the 2000s. As of 8 a.m. on the 8th, even Marado, Jeju Island, the southernmost tip of Korea, has recorded a temperature of 5 degrees below zero.
