‘Nutrition over diary’.

In the aftermath of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), consumption patterns in the New Year have changed. At the end of the year and the beginning of the year, there were many sales of resolution products such as diaries and smoking cessation aids, but this year, health-related products such as nutritional supplements took over.

According to social commerce company Timon on the 7th, as a result of analyzing year-end and early-year sales data from December 28 to January 4, sales of nutritional supplements and health functional foods increased by 183% compared to the same period last year. Home training tools such as rowing machines, dumbbells, and push-up bars also showed a high sales rate of 160% compared to the same period last year.

Diaries and notebooks, language study products, and smoking cessation aids, which were popular items for the New Year, recorded a double-digit increase in the beginning of last year, but this year only increased by one digit. An official from Timon said, “The sales rate of most of the product groups that were determined was less than 5% compared to the same period last year.”

In the distribution industry, after the spread of Corona 19, daily uncertainty has increased, and an analysis has emerged that there have been more people who postpone planning in the beginning of the new year. Now, due to Corona 19, it is difficult to plan overseas travel as well as domestic activities. Instead, it seems that more people are working on health care while preparing for Corona 19.

Kim Hyun-jung, head of CJ ENM’s M Living Business Team, also said, “It seems that the demand for New Year’s resolution products has changed due to the impact of Corona 19. “There is a lot of sales of license-related products such as certified brokers instead of language because of the sharp drop in overseas travel.”
Sales of Pilates equipment, yoga products, and homeschooling books are also increasing.
