Due to the severe cold wave, for four days from today, screening clinics began operating shortly, mainly in the metropolitan area.
Medical staff are wearing protective clothing and struggling with the cold.
We will connect the site situation and reporters to find out. Reporter Park Hee-jae!
Starting today, temporary screening clinics are running shortly?
[기자]
Yes, it is.
This temporary screening clinic opened at 11 am, an hour before.
It usually opens from 9 am, but two hours have been delayed.
This is because the government has decided to shorten the temporary screening clinic from today in order to protect the health of medical staff and others as the severe cold wave hits.
The decrease in the number of feet to be tested due to the cold also seems to have contributed to the shortening of operating hours.
Let’s take a look at the temporary screening clinic.
The clinic is largely divided into waiting, reception, and sample collection tents.
As you can see, the’walking mobile’ clinic has an open tent, so medical staff and staff are exposed to cold weather.
Dozens of residents are now waiting for inspection in the tent used as a waiting area.
When it’s your turn, go through the identification process at the reception desk next to you,
The medical staff collects samples from the tent opposite.
This process takes about 5 to 10 minutes per person, but the inspection is crowded, so we have no choice but to work outdoors for a long time.
This is a temporary screening clinic where desired residents can undergo preemptive examinations.
The general screening clinic, where actual test subjects are tested, started operating at 9 am, the same time as usual.
Here at Yangcheon-gu health center, test subjects, including those from overseas, continue to come to receive diagnostic tests.

Are you saying that the cold wave is having special difficulties for the medical staff?
[기자]
Yes, according to the Meteorological Agency, the temperature in this area is now 12 degrees below zero.
As the wind blows, the perceived temperature is recorded down to -18 degrees Celsius.
The medical staff here are wearing thin non-woven or vinyl protective clothing.
The size of the hazmat suit itself is small, so there is a limit to wearing a thick coat such as padding.
In general, I tried wearing a protective suit and underwear with the same thickness as the medical staff.
It is difficult to stand still in the chill that comes up from below.
Even if you put hot packs on the inside of your protective suit, it’s too hard to beat this bad cold.
In particular, medical staff disinfect their hands from time to time, so using hand sanitizer on your bare hands can double the pain from the cold.
Local governments have prepared 7 stoves and hot packs to provide support, but there is nothing wrong with them.
As such, screening clinics across the country are working in similar environments.
Just as they endured in the heatwave last summer, even in this cold wave, they are silently guarding the field with a sense of mission.
