Vice Minister of Justice Lee Yong-gu visited the Seoul East Detention Center and Suwon Detention Center early in the morning.

Deputy Minister Lee said he would visit the Eastern Detention Center every day for the time being, urging him to pay special attention to the treatment and treatment of prisoners.

The number of confirmed cases from the eastern detention center was close to 1,000, and 4 out of 10 inmates were infected.

On the same day, the Seoul East Detention Center conducted the 6th full inspection on 530 employees and 338 prisoners.

Results come out as early as a day later, but considering the increase in the number of three digits in the meantime, there is a possibility that the number of confirmed cases will exceed half of the prisoners.

Among these, the allocation of related budgets is also controversial.

The Ministry of Justice has allocated a budget of 722 million won for correctional facilities and 290 million won for immigration offices for quarantine next year.

However, it was pointed out that the quarantine-related budget for juvenile centers and treatment detention centers was not organized, so that it was a’quarantine blind spot’.

In response, the Ministry of Justice explained that in the case of juvenile centers and treatment detention centers, quarantine supplies can be purchased for general accommodation expenses and relief and correction expenses, and there is no problem with sufficient reserves.

As criticism continued on the management of correctional facilities, the quarantine authorities announced that they would announce related measures based on the discussions with the Ministry of Justice.

The countermeasures are expected to include the problem of shortage of beds of prisoners who have been confirmed, strengthening preliminary examinations, and measures to manage contacts.

In a situation where there is a great deal of confusion due to a’prolonged response’ to the unprecedented incident of collective infection in correctional facilities, attention is focused on whether the government will come up with effective measures.
