Iranian Revolutionary Guards capture Korean ships… Emergency dispatch of the Cheonghae unit

The Korean national oil tanker’Korea Chemie’ was captured by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard for environmental pollution in the Gulf waters.

The Ministry of National Defense announced on the 4th that immediately after detaining merchant ships, the Navy’s Cheonghae unit was urgently dispatched near the Strait of Hormuz.

The Cheonghae Unit Choi Young-Ham is currently moving near the Strait of Hormuz while conducting operations in the waters south of Muscat Port in Oman. It was announced that he was scheduled to arrive at the operation sea on the morning of the 5th.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Iran are in the process of confirming the safety of the crew and requesting the removal of early detention of ships.”

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Korean ship was confirmed to be moving to Iranian waters at the request of the Iranian authorities for investigation while sailing in the waters near Oman in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that a total of 20 people, including five Korean sailors, boarded the ship.

Iran’s semi-governmental Pars news agency said on the 4th (local time), “The Revolutionary Guard captured a Korean ship in the Gulf Sea and moved it to the port.” It’s done,” he reported.

Ban Kwan-young Tasnim News reported that the captured sailors were Korean, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Myanmar nationals. They added that they were detained in Bandar Abbas, a port city in southern Iran.
