Jae-Yong Lee “Samsung will work with partners to write the myth of system semiconductor”

“Let’s create a myth in system semiconductors by cooperating with Samsung Electronics and partners, academia, and research institutes.”

Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong emphasized the first achievement in the new year to achieve the first place in system semiconductors through win-win growth. It is interpreted as expressing his determination to create a’super gap’ in the system semiconductor sector as well as memory semiconductors by strengthening the domestic semiconductor industry ecosystem based on the vision of’companion with society’, which is the business blueprint of Vice Chairman Lee.

According to Samsung Electronics on the 4th, Vice Chairman Lee visited the Pyeongtaek business site on this new year’s first working day, inspected the foundry (semiconductor consignment production) site, and discussed mid- to long-term strategies with the management, starting the site management in 2021. After visiting the Hwaseong system semiconductor development site last year, Vice Chairman Lee chose the system semiconductor site as his first visit to the new year for two consecutive years.

Pyeongtaek Plant 2 is a high-tech complex production line that produces DRAM, next-generation V-NAND, and ultra-fine foundry (consignment production) products. After producing memory semiconductors last year, this year, it started bringing in facilities for foundry production.

Vice-Chairman Lee, who visited the site in work clothes that day, looked at the construction and operation of the Pyeongtaek Line 2, and received reports on the status of semiconductor investment and employment and joint initiatives with partner companies. Then, he attended the ceremony for bringing in foundry production facilities at the second plant. The equipment brought on this day is the semiconductor chemical vapor deposition equipment produced by Wonik IPS using domestic technology.

Five representatives from partner companies attended the event, including Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Kim Ki-nam, Foundry Business Manager Choi Si-young, Wonik IPS Chairman Kyong-soo Park, PSK Vice Chairman Lee Woo-kyung, ASML Korea Representative, Lee Jun-hyuk Dong Jin Semichem Vice Chairman, and Soulbrain Chairman Ji-wan Ji.

Vice Chairman Lee said, “Let’s make a myth in system semiconductors by cooperating with partner companies, academia, and research institutes to create a healthy ecosystem,” and “Let’s leap to the new Samsung in the new year of 2021. Together, we can open up the future.” It also discussed ways to foster domestic semiconductor ecosystems and promote mutual cooperation with representatives of partner companies. It emphasized the will to achieve the global No. 1 system semiconductor based on win-win growth. Previously, Vice Chairman Lee announced the’Semiconductor Vision 2030′, which will achieve the global No. 1 system semiconductor by investing 133 trillion won by 2030.

Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong began his on-site management in 2021 by taking care of’building a healthy industrial ecosystem’ through win-win cooperation with suppliers.

According to Samsung Electronics on the 4th, Vice Chairman Lee attended the ceremony for bringing in foundry production facilities at the 2nd Pyeongtaek factory with representatives of partner companies in working clothes even in the midst of a subzero cold. The equipment brought on this day is a CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) equipment that is essential for semiconductor wafer manufacturing, and Wonik IPS, a partner company, successfully localized it with technical support from Samsung.

Vice-Chairman Lee interviewed 5 representatives of partner companies who attended the induction ceremony, including Chairman Wonik IPS, Vice Chairman Park Kyung-soo, ASML Korea CEO Woo-kyung Lee, Vice Chairman Lee Jun-hyuk, Dongjin Semichem, and Soulbrain Chairman Jung Ji-wan, including Chairman Wonik IPS, who used the facility after the equipment delivery ceremony.

The presidents of partner companies interviewed by Vice Chairman Lee are representatives of semiconductor equipment and materials companies that have been with Samsung for more than 40 years and have been reborn as small-scale companies. Vice-Chairman Lee started this year with all members of the system semiconductor ecosystem, including partners, to grow up with all the members of the system semiconductor ecosystem to achieve the global No. 1 in the industry. It is the interpretation of the business world that it symbolically shows the beginning. It is explained that in order to keep the promise of’to be the best in the world’ that Vice Chairman Lee has steadily emphasized so far, he proposed a new growth equation.

Prior to this, Vice Chairman Lee said at the decision on the decision to abandon the Gukjeong Nonongdan on the 30th of last month, “The seung fisherman that I dream of should have a greater meaning. Academia, venture industry, and small and medium-sized companies should work together organically so that our industrial ecosystem can become healthier. “I will do my best” and emphasized strengthening competitiveness through’building a healthy industrial ecosystem’.

In the semiconductor industry, Samsung’s strategy to foster the industrial ecosystem is expected to lead to more companies’ success stories. Through’Semiconductor Vision 2030′ in April 2019, Samsung has been promoting △Investment of 133 trillion won in system semiconductors for 10 years, △recruitment of 15,000 professionals △plan to strengthen the domestic system semiconductor ecosystem.

Samsung Electronics plans to make large-scale investments such as 73 trillion won in domestic research and development and 60 trillion won in new production facilities by 2030. In particular, it was initially planned to invest about 20 trillion won for three years from 2019 to 2021 out of 133 trillion won, but the execution time was greatly accelerated to invest about 40 trillion won, which is twice the previous plan by 2021. In addition, Samsung also plans to increase the hiring of system semiconductor personnel by more than 20% compared to the original.
