[영종뉴스 김미혜 기자] Incheon International Airport Corporation (President Nam-soo Lim) announced that the first hydrogen charging station in Incheon Airport, which was built near Incheon Airport Terminal 1, will begin operating from January 4, 2021.

Incheon Airport’s hydrogen charging station is located on a site near Sky Garden (3212 Unseo-dong), and is scheduled to be operated 24/7 from 8 am to 10 pm.

The Incheon Airport hydrogen charging station construction and operation project is a part of a private subsidy project organized by the Ministry of Environment for the spread of hydrogen vehicles in Korea, and is an achievement achieved in close cooperation with government agencies, Incheon International Airport Corporation, and private business operators.

Earlier, in July of last year, the KTO signed a business agreement with Hydrogen Energy Network, a specialized operating company for hydrogen charging stations, and has been preparing to build and operate a hydrogen charging station.

The hydrogen charging station to be opened this time is a specification that can charge 25kg per hour (5 cars per passenger), and is expected to greatly contribute to improving the convenience of hydrogen car users using Incheon Airport and expanding the distribution of hydrogen cars in the region.

In addition, with the aim of operating in the first half of next year, KDHC is leading the expansion of hydrogen infrastructure by establishing a second hydrogen charging station in Incheon Airport, the largest (1,000 kg/day) in Korea, where hydrogen buses and hydrogen (passenger) cars can be simultaneously charged. I plan to go out.

To this end, the KTO signed a business agreement with Hyundai Motor Company, Air Liquid Korea, and Hydrogen Energy Network in May for the installation and operation of the Incheon Airport hydrogen charging station.

In addition, KDHC introduced 84 business hydrogen vehicles and 7 hydrogen shuttle buses from January 2021 based on the hydrogen charging infrastructure operated at Incheon Airport, and introduced 10 additional hydrogen shuttle buses by 2025. The plan is to actively take the lead in realizing a low-carbon, eco-friendly airport by expanding mobility.

“Incheon International Airport Corporation is actively taking the lead in realizing a low-carbon eco-friendly airport through the introduction of hydrogen vehicles and hydrogen shuttle buses as well as expanding the infrastructure of hydrogen charging stations,” said Lim Nam-soo, president of Incheon International Airport Corporation. “We plan to take a leap forward as a leading airport for green mobility by making efforts to convert 100% of the vehicles operating in Incheon Airport, such as construction, airlines, and operators, into eco-friendly vehicles.”
