After the death of a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) occurred in the Seoul detention center following the eastern detention center in Seoul, the Ministry of Justice announced that it would focus all its capabilities to prevent the spread of Corona 19.
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 31st, at around 8:17 am on the day, one of the two inmates who were diagnosed with Corona 19 at the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province died.
The deceased was a male inmate in his mid-30s with an underlying disease, and after he was diagnosed with Corona 19 on the 21st, he was asymptomatic and mild and was held in an quarantine living room.
They were receiving treatment and management similar to that of the Life Therapy Center by their own medical staff, and the deceased was reported to have had a normal life, such as going to the bathroom by himself until 5:30 am on the day.
The Ministry of Justice explained, “I confirmed that the deceased’s consciousness was weak at the time of the weather, and tried to evacuate it to an external medical facility nearby, but I was informed that it was difficult to evacuate to a general hospital as a confirmed Corona 19 patient.”
The man died after consulting with the local public health center and other quarantine authorities to secure a bed.
The Ministry of Justice is currently determining the exact cause of the deceased’s death. In the future, in consultation with the surviving family, the competent prosecutors’ office and health authorities, the funeral procedure will be conducted in accordance with the’Corona 19 funeral management guidelines’.
The Ministry of Justice said, “We will do our best for treatment and management through intensive management of our own medical staff for confirmed cases currently being held.”
On the other hand, when looking at the current status of corona19 confirmed detainees by institution, there were 535 people in the eastern detention center in Seoul, 345 people in North Gyeongsang Province 2 prison, 21 people in Gwangju prison, 16 people in southern prison, 2 people in Seoul detention center, and 6 people in North Gangwon prison.
