The Genesis G80 was named’The Safest Car of the Year’.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 31st that as a result of evaluating the stability of new cars sold this year, 10 car models, including the Genesis G80, received the highest rating among the evaluation grades, and the Genesis G80 received the overall highest score.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport this year evaluated the safety of 8 domestic and 3 imported car models. As a result, 8 car models including Kia Motors K5, Sorento, Carnival, Chevrolet Trail Blazer, Hyundai Motor Avante, Genesis G80, GV80, and Renault Samsung XM3 as domestic cars, and 2 car models including Renault Capture and Mercedes A220 among Imports received first grade. . Only the Audi Q7 received a fifth grade.

The Genesis G80 was selected as the’Excellent Vehicle Safety Assessment’ this year. The G80 had the highest overall grade score among the first-class vehicles in the medium and large sedan sector. The G80 scored the highest in all areas, including collision safety, pedestrian safety, and accident prevention safety.

On the other hand, the Audi Q7 received the lowest evaluation, with a score of 0 in the safety evaluation for a frontal collision. When the impact was evaluated, the amount of impact applied to the head of the rear seat dummy exceeded the upper limit of the injury reference value, and the score was scored as 0.

The reason why the head injuries of the Audi Q7’s rear-seat manikin were high was because the pretensioner was not installed in the rear seat seat belt. This device instantly rewinds the seat belt to reduce the width of the passenger’s forward movement, thereby enhancing the effect of the seat belt.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Audi Volkswagen Korea plans to improve safety by installing a pretensioner in the rear seat of the Q7 in the first half of next year.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport’s automobile policy officer Yun Jin-hwan said, “Next year, we plan to evaluate the risk of fire and explosion of batteries and the risk of high voltage electric shock by selecting electric vehicles as an evaluation vehicle type.”
