While the trend of OLED in the global smartphone display panel market is expected to solidify next year, Samsung Display, which is prominent in this market, is expected to run fast.

According to market research firm Omdia on the 30th, Samsung Display’s smartphone OLED sales in the first quarter of next year are expected to reach $ 5.18 billion. This is the first $5 billion mark in the first quarter. In particular, it is an increase of about 30% compared to the record of $3,975 million in the first quarter of this year. The industry believes that the increase in OLED adoption by global smartphone makers has had a positive effect on Samsung Display’s sales.

Omdia predicts that the proportion of OLED sales in the smartphone display panel market in the fourth quarter of this year will increase to 68.2%. This means that nearly 7 out of 10 new smartphones are adopting OLED. On the contrary, the proportion of LCD sales is expected to reach 31.8%, recording the first 30% range. An industry insider said, “The stronger OLED for smartphones continues, the greater the influence of Samsung Display, the strongest player in the small and medium-sized OLED market, in the smartphone market is expected.”

As the 5G smartphone market began to fully bloom from this year, Samsung Display commercialized the’adaptive frequency’ technology that drastically lowers the power consumption of smartphones by automatically adjusting the display refresh rate. In addition, the number of consumers who use high-resolution video streaming services or access game contents with their smartphones increased, attracting market attention by introducing high refresh rate OLEDs of 90Hz and 120Hz. An industry insider said, “Samsung Display will be able to widen the technological gap with competitors by maintaining its leadership in the OLED market with its unrivaled share in the foldable market where explosive growth is expected in the future.”
