A new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine developed by the US pharmaceutical company Modena is expected to be supplied to Korea from the second quarter of next year, for 20 million people (40 million doses).

President Moon Jae-in and Chief Executive Officer Stephen Vansel Modena (CEO) made a video call from 9:53 the night before and agreed to the same, said Blue House spokesman Kang Min-seok on the 29th.

This is twice the amount of 20 million doses negotiated by the government and Modena.

The timing of vaccine supply is also expected to be accelerated. Spokesman Kang said, “Along with the expansion of the purchase volume, the purchase price will be lowered.”

Bancell CEO said to President Moon, “We will do our best to ensure that vaccines are supplied early. If the Korean government wants to sign a contract quickly, it is possible to sign a contract within this year.” In response, President Moon replied, “I hope to sign a contract within this year as much as possible.”

Spokesman Kang explained, “According to an agreement between President Moon and CEO Bancell, the government and Moderna plan to sign a contract to supply a vaccine with a quantity that can inoculate 20 million people within the year.”

He added, “The amount of vaccines that the government has signed a contract with is 36 million people. If a contract with Modena within this year is signed, it will increase to 56 million people.”
