Singer and painter Solbi (real name Kwon Ji-an) clarified the controversy over design plagiarism over the cake he made.

Solbi said on his Instagram on the 22nd, “I’m obsessed with making cakes in the baker’s room because of social distancing. I’ve made this cake in my own way. I uploaded a picture of making a cake together.

However, the design of the cake has since become controversial. It is pointed out that it is similar to’Play-Doh’ by Jeff Koons, an American contemporary artist. In fact, the color and composition used in this work and the cake are similar.

As the controversy grew, Solbi wrote the post on the 26th, “This cake was inspired by the works of Jeff Koons Play-Doh while watching children’s clay play. “For reference, those cakes on Instagram are not for sale. I eat what I make and the actual sale is made by professional bakers.” “Everyone can be an artist,” he added, “like the concept of Jeff Koon’s paly-doh work. I also turned this free idea into a cake.”

On the 28th, a video was uploaded with an article titled “Just a cake”. In the released video, Solbi is eating her own cake without expression.

Although Solbi explained that it was not for sale, the controversy has not subsided as the circumstances of selling at the bakery were discovered. It sold cakes that the company specified as’Chunky Cake Edition’ on the portal site online mall. In addition, the product description says’Lettering Solbi’. Therefore, Solbi’s explanation that it was not for sale is even more difficult. However, on the product sales page, he said,’This product was made with homage to Jeff Koons Play-Doh’, indicating that he was inspired by the work.

However, the cake has already been sold. Solbi, who has been making works full of personality with a sense of freedom, has shown off his face as an artist, needs a clear explanation for this controversy.
