Previously, Samsung Electronics and Xiaomi had criticized when Apple excluded the charger from the iPhone 12 package. However, as Apple’s policy became a trick to reduce product cost along with the cause of’environmental protection’, it started to follow Apple.

On the 28th (local time), Xiaomi CEO Leijun announced on the Chinese SNS Weibo that the charger is not provided in the package of the new Xiaomi smartphone’Mi 11′.

“The new Mi11 packaging has become thinner and lighter,” he said. “Many people today have idle chargers, which is a burden on the environment,” he explained the background of the policy.

Earlier, when Apple released the iPhone 12 in October, it excluded the charger and bundled earphones from the basic components, pursuing environmental protection and reducing carbon emissions.

At the time, Apple explained, “So far, more than 2 billion iPhone chargers have been distributed,” and “By excluding the power adapter and earpods from the iPhone package, carbon emissions can be reduced.” Apple only provides a USB-C to Lightning cable for the iPhone 12 components.

As a result, Xiaomi posted a video promoting the’Mi 10T Pro’ on SNS immediately after Apple’s iPhone 12 release, suggesting that its product will be equipped with a charger. It took only two months to make a decision to reverse this.

“We know that we may not understand this decision or may be dissatisfied with this decision,” said CEO Lei Jun. “Which is the better solution between industry practice and environmental protection?”

The same goes for Samsung Electronics. Samsung Electronics excludes the charger from the package of’Galaxy S21′ to be released next year. Earlier, it was reported that the power adapter and wired earphones are not included in the Galaxy S21 package in Europe and Brazil.

At the time of the iPhone 12 launch, Samsung Electronics had twisted its charger exclusion policy. The day after the iPhone 12 announcement, he posted a picture of the charger on social media, saying, “Galaxy offers the most basic chargers, the best cameras and batteries.”

However, just as Apple included earphones in France as an exception according to local laws, there is a possibility that Samsung Electronics may decide whether to exclude chargers and earphones differently by country.
An industry insider said, “There may be many factors, but manufacturers are trying to reduce the purchase cost burden of consumers by removing accessories as manufacturing costs increase with chipsets installed in 5G phones.”
