The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters held a meeting on the afternoon of the 27th and discussed the “intermediate evaluation of the second week of emergency medical response plan in the metropolitan area,” and made this announcement.

As of the 12th, before the implementation of the emergency medical response plan, there were 2548 beds available in the metropolitan area. However, the number of confirmed coronaviruses increased sharply in the metropolitan area, and the number of patients waiting at home due to a lack of beds increased sharply. The number of waiting patients in the metropolitan area was 364 on the 14th → 595 on the 17th → 368 on the 20th, and so on. Some patients died without going to medical facilities.

The quarantine authorities began to secure available beds, and the number of beds increased to 5813 as of the previous day, an increase of about 3,000. There are 5316 life treatment centers, 417 hospitals dedicated to infectious diseases, and 80 critically ill beds. Accordingly, the number of waiting patients in the metropolitan area also decreased to 96 as of the day.

The quarantine authorities plan to finish securing 10,000 beds, which was originally targeted, and to secure additional beds. It was designated and operated by a nursing hospital dedicated to infectious diseases for elderly patients with bedridden and dementia, and decided to designate a bed-manager for each medical institution in charge of patient assignment and decision-making.
