The 80s who entered the country from England died of Corona 19. They are investigating whether they are infected with the mutant virus.

A man in his 80s who was in self-quarantine after returning from the UK was diagnosed with Corona 19 after his death. The quarantine authorities are investigating whether the confirmed person is infected with the mutant virus. So far, no cases of mutant virus infection have been confirmed in Korea.

According to the city of Goyang on the 27th, the man was self-quarantine after returning from the UK on the 13th, but he was transferred to Ilsan Hospital after a cardiac arrest occurred at 10:45 am on the 26th. Afterwards, first aid was provided, but he died around 11:27 am on the same day.

The quarantine authorities are planning to analyze samples of men who died as mutant viruses have recently been discovered in the UK. The analysis results are expected to be available in the first week of January.

Corona 19 virus mutations are checked through full-length genome analysis (NGS). It is a test that compares and analyzes all the sequences of the virus to confirm.

An official from the quarantine authority said, “We are currently obtaining (the male’s) specimens, and if the mutation test is performed as soon as it is obtained, the results will be confirmed in the first week of January.”

The man had no contact with hospital officials or patients because first aid and corona 19 tests were performed outside the emergency room.

Corona 19 tests are also conducted on two family members who have been in contact with the man at home, waiting for the results.

This mutant virus is known to be up to 70% more infectious than the existing corona 19 virus. However, specific research is still in progress. It is not new that viruses mutate.

Vaccine manufacturers believe that the Corona 19 vaccine, which has already been developed and released, or is undergoing clinical trials, will also be effective against this new mutant virus.

Meanwhile, the government temporarily suspended all flights departing from the UK from the 23rd to the 31st to block the domestic inflow of the mutant virus found in the UK.

Mutant viruses have been reported one after another in Europe and around the world. In Asia, it is known that this mutant virus has been found in Japan, Australia and Singapore.
