Households and businesses are seeking to secure funds, stockpiling funds instead of investment
“This year, household savings rate is expected to record the highest level in 21 years”

It was investigated that this year’s total bank deposits surged by over 135 trillion won until last October.
It seems that it is because households and companies are stacking up money once as the anxiety increases due to the spread of Corona 19.
There are also concerns that the so-called’pork vein hardening’ phenomenon may be caused if it is not turned to the market.

According to the Bank of Korea, as of the end of October this year, the total balance of deposits at deposit banks is KRW 1,651 trillion.
Compared to the end of last year (151.5 trillion won), it has increased by 13.7 trillion won.
The year-round increase of last year has already exceeded 12 trillion won.
The reason for this year’s explosive increase in deposits is that households and businesses that have been trying to secure a record level of funds in response to Corona 19 have stocked up funds instead of consumption and investment.

Accordingly, Korea’s household savings rate is expected to reach around 10% this year, reaching the highest level in 21 years since 13.2% in 1999.
The situation in the United States is similar, and according to the Korea Financial Research Institute, the total amount of US commercial bank deposits this year increased from $1.3 trillion at the end of January to $1.5 trillion at the end of October, by $2.7 trillion, or about 2,990 trillion won.
The money accumulated in the bank could lead to increased consumption by developing vaccines and lifting blockades in the future.
However, if it is accumulated in anxiety and is not absorbed into the market, it may lead to a contraction in consumption and a slow economic recovery.
In addition, there are concerns that it could further boost asset prices by focusing on the stock or real estate market without finding a suitable investment destination.
