[스타톡] ‘Sweet Home’ Lee Si-young “I made a new character that wasn’t in the original but absolutely necessary”

Actor Lee Si-young has entered the ranks of’Action Queen’ through the Netflix original series’Sweet Home’. In the play, he was a firefighter Seo Yi-kyung, who was a special warrior, and recorded 8% of body fat, and it remains a character that received a lot of praise at the same time as the series was released.

“I’m so grateful as Lee Kyung for participating in this series. I couldn’t see the edited version, and I saw the day it was released on Netflix, but I also enjoyed it too much (laughs). All the hardships of all of my fellow actors, staff, and directors were not in vain. I feel happy.”

This work is based on the webtoon of the same name, and depicts the bizarre and shocking story of a reclusive, lonely high school student, Hyeon-su, in an apartment moving after the loss of his family. Seo Yi-kyung, in charge of Lee Si-young, is a newly added character for the series that was not in the original.

“I enjoyed the original work so much. I had to rely on the director and the writer. In this series, we talked a lot about why Gyeong-i Lee needed, why he should exist, and how he was a warrior. Lee Gyeong-i exists in’Sweet Home’. Thinking about the reason for doing this, I created a character.”

Since it was a character that was not in the original, the original played an important role for Lee Si-young. To understand the whole story, webtoons were essential. However, he confessed, “I referenced it for the drama series. I did not practice acting.”

“The original work was a situation I had to see. Each character and monster each had a warrior and a history, but there was an unkind part that I had to omit because I couldn’t show all of them in terms of selection and concentration. So the director asked me to refer to the original work. I didn’t practice acting in advance. It was a disaster, but it didn’t make sense to practice in advance. So I played the same feelings I felt at the scene. Because of this, there was no reading in the whole (laughs).”

A new character has been added, but there is no sense of disparity. Like the original character, it naturally melted into the play. As a firefighter from a special warrior, the action as well as the character’s settings played an important key role in expanding the worldview of’Sweet Home’.

“Rather than the image of a subjective woman and a female warrior, Lee Kyung-i is the only person leaving the green home, which is the background of the play. So, he became the only person to expand the worldview. There are incidents that occurred while Lee Kyung-i left the green home and came to know new things. I think that expanding the story was the biggest role that Kyung-yi played.”

Through’Sweet Home’, various actions from bare body action to gun action were shown. The scene of fighting a spider monster in the play left a deep impression on the viewers. And it was also the moment when the effect of making 8% body fat shined properly.

“It was also the longest action taken. It was filmed for 3 days (laughs). It was a scene I was looking forward to, and it was nice to be able to shoot it nicely. The’Sweet Home’ action had to fight the invisible, but it wasn’t difficult because you matched your eyes with the green ball. I didn’t tell you to remove the body fat to a certain extent, but I prepared that I had to lose that much in order to see the muscles well. I exercised because there were a lot of naked body action, but it was a heavy burden.”

Seo Yi-kyung is as strong as a man and a subjective woman. This character is called’a character that is unlikely to die’, but with the addition of the setting to become pregnant, its own restrictions have arisen.

“From the standpoint of a person who needs to survive, he may be a person with a big weakness. There was a lot of constraints when working on the action. But I couldn’t act while thinking of all these things. The most important thing in fighting monsters is’survival’. When I was doing the action, I just thought’I have to survive’ and worked on acting.”

When I think of Si-young Lee from some point in time, attention is focused on the external part rather than acting. In this work, the back muscles, 8% body fat, and action have been a hot topic from the beginning. It was also one of the most regrettable things as an’actor’.

“In the past, I actually got more attention from physical and it was a burden. I want to do various characters, but it wasn’t easy. Now I think,’Where did such an image come from?’ Haha. Thank you. So with a strong image,’Sweet’ I can do various works like’Home’, so I changed my direction with the idea of ​​working harder. The thing that is attracting attention outside of acting is the part I need to work on in the future.”
