Major general hospitals are contemplating how to implement the government’s order to secure critically ill beds for new coronavirus infections (Corona 19).

This is because, in order to receive a critically ill patient with Corona 19, space for not only hospital beds, but also medical personnel, quarantine supplies, and protective clothing must be provided.

According to the medical community on the 23rd, senior hospitals should secure at least 1% of the number of beds approved by medical institutions as dedicated beds to treat severely ill patients by the 26th.

But it’s not an easy problem. This is because it is not possible to receive critically ill patients with Corona 19 just by having a bed.

Up to 4 to 5 times more medical staff than general intensive care patients should be added.

First of all, the medical staff in charge of Corona 19 have to wear Level D protective clothing to care for patients, so they are more fatigued than normal hospital beds. Therefore, as the shift cycle should be short, a lot of medical personnel are required.

Separation of traffic lines and provision of space for quarantine supplies are also a problem to be solved.

A senior general hospital official said, “We need a warehouse for medical staff to take off their protective clothing and store medical equipment.”

Another general hospital official said, “It is not easy to separate the movement lines between Corona 19 patients and general patients,” he said.
