The prosecution requested an arrest warrant against the independent lawmaker Lee Sang-jik, the founder of Eastar Jet.

According to the legal community on the 9th, Criminal Division 3 of Jeonju District Prosecutors’ Office (Director Il-soo Lim) requested a warrant for arrest by applying charges such as violations of the Act on Specific Economic Crimes Aggravated Punishment (allegation and embezzlement), embezzlement in business, and violation of party law.

Rep. Lee is accused of conspiring the crime with Mr. A, an executive in charge of funding, arrested for inflicting financial damage of about 43 billion won to the company, such as harming the company’s financial stability by repaying Eastar Jet’s long-term borrowings early. In addition, it is also suspected of participating in the embezzlement crime of Mr. A, who arbitrarily used 3.8 billion won of funds from Eastar Jet’s affiliates.

Mr. A, known as Lee’s nephew, was arrested and handed over to trial earlier last month on charges of embezzlement. In a trial held earlier last month, Mr. A said, “(Mr. A) is just an employee who does what is ordered above.” Accordingly, the prosecution decided that Mr. A’s crime was committed under Lee’s instructions, and applied for an arrest warrant for Lee, taking into account the seriousness of the crime.

Meanwhile, last year, Congressman Lee was accused of intervening in the process of acquiring Eastar Jet shares by Eastar Holdings from the power of the people and Eastar Jet’s labor union.
