Kakao Games, last year’s operating profit of 66.6 billion…90% ↑

Kakao Games (representatives Nam Gung-hoon and Jo Gye-hyun) announced on the 8th that in 2020, it recorded sales of about 4955 billion won, operating profit of about 66.6 billion won, and net profit of about 67.3 billion won.

Sales and operating profit increased by 27% and 90%, respectively, to record record highs. Net income surged 659% year-on-year.

In addition, sales in the fourth quarter were about 142 billion won, operating profit of about 16.6 billion won, and net income of about 12.5 billion won.

Kakao Games’ 2020 yearly performance was consistent with the stable performance of existing live games, and both PC online and mobile divisions grew evenly, recording the largest sales and operating profit since its inception.

Looking at the details, the PC online game division recorded about KRW 183.8 billion. This is the result of adding 10 billion won to sales of’Elion’, which was launched in December last year.

The company explained that the mobile game division recorded about 249 billion won, up 37% year-on-year, thanks to the success of’Guardian Tales’, which was launched in the domestic and global markets in July last year.

Other sales, consisting of subsidiary Kakao VX and new business sales, also increased by 33% year-on-year to KRW 62.8 billion thanks to increased golf demand.

This year, the global expansion of existing titles such as’Elion’ and’Moonlight Sculptor’ in Japan, North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia, and the masterpiece MMORPG’Odin’,’Guardis Order’,’World Flipper’,’Soul Artifact (tentative name)’ ,’Terafire (tentative name)’, etc., it plans to continue its growth by sequentially releasing new works of various genres across PC online and mobile.
