The initial popularity of Hyundai Motor’s first exclusive electric car’Ioniq 5’is not unusual. Following a new record in Korea, Europe, the largest electric vehicle market, is setting a box office record, with pre-contracts sold out within a day. The Hyundai Motor Group plans to continue targeting the European market with Kia CV (project name), which is about to be released in the European market.

Ionic 5 is the first electric vehicle to apply’E-GMP’, a platform exclusively for electric vehicles of Hyundai Motor Group. It is characterized by increased space utilization by flattening the floor with a dedicated platform. In addition, it is equipped with a fast charging system that can charge 80% within 18 minutes, and it boasts convenience and efficiency, such as driving up to 100km with only 5 minutes of charging.

According to Hyundai Motor Company’s European subsidiary on the 28th, as a result of receiving a pre-contract with Ioniq 5 for 3,000 units in Europe on the 25th (local time), more than three times the volume of 10,000 customers flocked to achieve’complete sale’ in one day. .

In the case of Europe, the contract was paid in advance with a down payment of 1,000 euros (approximately 1.36 million won). Hyundai Motors’ European subsidiary added that since the release of the Ioniq 5, there have been 236,000 cases of interest and inquiries about the vehicle.

The domestic reaction to Ionic 5 was also hot. On the 25th, the first day of pre-contracting in Korea, Ionic 5 recorded 23,000,760 units, breaking the record on the first day of pre-contracting for domestic finished vehicle models including internal combustion locomotives. This is also the record for Tesla, which has become synonymous with electric vehicles, surpassing 11,000 units of domestic cumulative sales last year in one day.

The Hyundai Motor Group, which declared this year the first year of electric vehicle leap forward, will also unveil the world’s first CV, Kia’s first exclusive electric vehicle, following the Ioniq 5 next month. CV, which is also based on E-GMP, is a model that implements the time (zero-back) to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 3 seconds, and the car name will be selected as one of EV1 to EV9. Kia CV is expected to start selling in Korea and Europe in July.

Europe is the fastest growing market for electric vehicles in the world. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), a total of 745,000 electric vehicles were sold in the European market last year. This is a level that has doubled from 2019 (36,164 units). Sales of electric vehicles in the European market this year are expected to be 1 million units.

It is reported that Hyundai Motors aims to sell more than 70,000 of its 160,000 global electric vehicle sales targets in Europe this year. Kia’s global electric vehicle sales target this year is 104,000 units, of which 62,000 units will be sold in Europe.
