As the government decided to announce a plan for vaccination against a novel coronavirus infectious disease (Corona 19) in the second quarter on the 15th, interest is drawing on the targets for vaccination in the second quarter.

Unlike in the first quarter, the number of targets will be greatly expanded in the second quarter as vaccination begins in earnest.

According to the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (hereinafter referred to as the Promotion Team) on the 13th, the targets for the second quarter of vaccination include 8.5 million people aged 65 and over, about 380,000 health care workers working in dentistry, oriental hospitals, pharmacies, etc. 19 About 900,000 residents and workers in vulnerable facilities are included.

Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun said, “We will allow 12 million people to complete the first vaccination by the first half,” referring to the target group for vaccination in the second quarter at the vaccination/treatment situation check meeting held at the government office the day before.

The 12 million people are expected to include flight attendants, special school teachers, and health teachers, which were not originally planned.

According to the plan announced by Prime Minister Chung, 1,145,3,723 people, more than 20 times more than 546,000 people who had been vaccinated in the last two weeks, would be vaccinated for three months.

As the number of vaccination targets increases significantly, some are concerned that the vaccine may be insufficient.

The government secured a total of 79 million vaccines through the COVAX facility, an international vaccine joint purchase project with individual pharmaceutical companies, of which 11.3% or 889 It is about 13,000 people. Compared to the target of 12 million, 3106,000 people are insufficient.

This is due to insufficient vaccines worldwide and poor supply and demand.

Accordingly, the government is planning to use reserves for the 2nd vaccination of AstraZeneca vaccine, which must be given twice in total for the effective vaccination, for the 1st vaccination.

Assuming that the second dose is used as the first dose, 16.7 million people can be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine alone.

▲ Nursing hospitals and nursing facilities who have been receiving the vaccine since last month ▲ hospitalized, residents and workers under the age of 65 (272,000 people) ▲ high-risk medical institutions (354,000 people) ▲ Corona 19 first responders (78,000 people) In addition, those who are hospitalized, residents 65 years of age or older, and workers (376,000 people), who are expected to receive vaccination from the second half of this month, and general 65 years of age or older (8.5 million people) who are subject to vaccination in the second quarter are all given the first vaccination. It is also the amount left.

However, those who received the first vaccination should receive a second vaccination between 8 and 12 weeks, and an additional AstraZeneca vaccine must be introduced within a few months.

An official from the promotion team explained, “The reserve for the second vaccination can be used at a level that does not affect the second vaccination schedule.”

The total amount of Pfizer vaccines already supplied or introduced in the first half of the year amounted to 3558,000 people (717,000 doses).

Of the 12 million people who will receive the primary vaccination in the first half of the year, 2.42 million remain, except for 1.08 million confirmed targets for the AstraZeneca vaccine and the 8.5 million people aged 65 or older who are also expected to receive the vaccine. Half is the amount you can get until the second vaccination.

In addition, Modena, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), and NovaVax products will be supplied in the second quarter.

Modena vaccine is an mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid) vaccine like Pfizer’s vaccine, and should be distributed and stored at -20 degrees Celsius.

The NovaVax vaccine is a synthetic antigen vaccine, and Janssen’s product is a viral carrier vaccine such as the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Both products can be distributed refrigerated (2-8 degrees). In particular, it is known that the Janssen vaccine, unlike other Corona 19 vaccines, can achieve sufficient immunity with just one vaccination.
