Ahmed Alisa, a suspect in a shooting incident in Colorado, USA, who killed 10 victims, requested a mental illness assessment, and the court accepted it.

The court also ordered that Alyssa be detained without being allowed bail while being diagnosed with psychopaths.

Alyssa, accused of first-degree murder, appeared for the first time in a court in Boulder County, Colorado on the 25th (local time), the Associated Press reported.

Alisa didn’t say anything except for shortly answering’yes’ to the judge’s question confirming the identity and allegations at the court hearing held that day.

Instead, Alisa announced that she would receive mental appraisal through her attorney.

Attorney Kathryn Herald said she is asking for a mental health assessment “to deal with mental illness” by Alyssa. The attorney did not disclose details of his mental illness.

Judge Thomas Mulverhill accepted the request for psychological evaluation and ordered that Alyssa be held in prison without bail while being diagnosed.

Earlier, the Alisa family claimed that he was antisocial and suffered from paranoia and that mental illness could be the motive for the shooting.

As Alisa’s request for psychological evaluation is accepted, the next trial procedure is expected to be postponed by two to three months, the Associated Press reported.

“You can’t do anything until you can fully assess Ali’s mental illness,” the Herald attorney said.

The investigative authorities are focusing on finding clues to the crime, saying it is too early to reveal the motives of Alisa’s shooting.

Prosecutor Michael Doherty indicated that further prosecution could be made against Alyssa in the coming weeks, indicating some progress in the investigation.

“We are working with the federal and state governments to conduct the investigation,” he said. “I am confident that 12 people will be available to make the right verdict (a jury) when the time comes.”

Alisa, who appeared in court on this day, appeared for the first time after the shooting incident on the 22nd.

Wearing a mask and a prison uniform, he entered the courtroom in a wheelchair. At the time of the crime, he suffered a piercing injury in his leg during a shootout with the police.

The Associated Press said, “Alyssa seemed to be vigilant and paying attention.”
