KCC Honorary Chairman Sang-young Sang-young passed away on the 30th at 86 years old in the domestic construction materials market.

Founded in 1958, the slate manufacturing company’Kumgang Slet Industrial Co., Ltd.’, the deceased who was raised as KCC, the 32nd largest comprehensive construction material company in terms of assets (11 trillion won in 2020), has been among the Korean entrepreneurs for the past 60 years with the spirit of’industrial conservation’. I kept the field for a long time. It is thanks to his dedication that advanced countries were able to succeed by entering the paint (1974), glass (1987), and silicon (2003) businesses in turn and devoted themselves to localizing construction and industrial materials.

Honorary Chairman Chung is the youngest brother of the late Hyundai Group Honorary Chairman Chung Ju-young, who was called’Chairman Wang’, and was also called’Little Jung Ju-young’ because of his similar appearance and tone. The deceased also selected the eldest brother,’Honorary Chairman Jeong Ju-young,’ as the most respected person.

KCC Honorary Chairman Sang-young Sang-young, a small giant in the domestic construction and industrial materials industry, was born on December 7, 1936 in Seoul, and graduated from Yongsan High School and Dongguk University law departments.

Honorary Chairman Sang-young Sang-young rejected the support of his eldest eldest brother Chung Ju-young, Honorary Chairman of Hyundai Group, and at the young age of 23, he started Geumgang Slet Industries and entered the path as a manager. In the early days, he laid the foundation for the business by making construction materials such as asbestos and slate roofs, and in 1965, he established a construction division and made quite a lot of money from the wind of Saemaul Undong. When the business was stabilized to some extent, it began to localize construction and industrial materials based on the spirit of’industrial conservation’. In 1974, he established’Koryo Chemical’ and entered the paint business, which is the organic chemistry field, and in 1989, the construction business division was separated to establish Geumgang Construction (now KCC E&C). In 2000, it merged with Kumgang and Koryo Chemical and newly launched as Kumkang Koryo Chemical. In 2005, the company changed its name to KCC, which is currently used, and has grown into a global high-tech material chemical company ranging from construction materials to silicon and high-tech materials. Taking the lead in securing high-tech competitiveness, it succeeded in mass production of semiconductor encapsulants (EMC) for the first time in Korea in 1987, and contributed to the localization of semiconductor materials by developing adhesives for semiconductors.

In 1996, it secured its own technology for water-soluble automotive paints and made a big stride in the development of paint technology. Since 2003, it has made Korea the seventh country to have silicon manufacturing technology after Germany, France, the United States, Japan, Russia, and China by independently producing silicon raw materials (monomers) that were entirely dependent on imports.

The deceased, who was an executive who set an example by himself by emphasizing ownership and integrity management to employees with a modest and frugal personality, focused on securing talented people necessary for the country, such as willing to spend tens of billions of won in private assets at Dongguk University and Ulsan University.

◆ Commemoration of’Chairman Wang’ until the end

Honorary Chairman Sang-young Sang-young specially followed Honorary Chairman Joo-young Chung, who is the’Chairman Wang’. Although he is the older brother, he was twenty-one years old, so he showed high respect for him as he was closer to his father, and Chairman Wang loved him. It was during the ignition ceremony of KCC’s Yeoju Glass Plant Unit 3 in 1995 that Chairman Wang, who had been dismissed after losing the presidential election in 1992, appeared on the industrial site again.

At the beginning of this year, honorary chairman Sang-young Sang-young made a gut feeling that his life was short, and before the last road, he published a KCC newsletter that contained the life and founding story of Chairman Wang, who met his 20th anniversary, monumental achievements, and a relationship with KCC. The deceased is also proud of the `Chung family`. In 2003, his nephew, daughter-in-law Hyun Jeong-eun, and Hyundai Elevator’s chairman had a dispute over the management rights of the Hyundai Group. At the time, honorary chairman Sang-young Sang-young emphasized legitimacy, saying, “The management rights of Hyundai Group belong to the Jeong family.”

◆ Beomhyundai leaves the first generation

With the death of Chung’s honorary chairman, the era of the first generation executives of Pan-Hyundai Group also ended. The first generation of Hyundai has laid the cornerstone in the Korean economy by forming a global group with bare hands, resembling his father, who was a rumored to be diligent in the neighborhood. The beginning of the Pan-Hyundai family is the late Jeong Bong-sik and Han Sung-sik, who were farmers in Asan-ri, Songjeon-myeon, Tongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do. The couple had 6 boys and 1 daughter, including the eldest son Jeong Ju-young, honorary chairman of Hyundai Group. The first generation of Beomhyungga writes’Gil Young’ Dolimja in their names.

Jeong Ju-young, the eldest son, who established Hyundai Motor Company and other subsidiaries in 1946 and formed the Hyundai Group, which competed for first and second place with the Samsung Group, passed away in 2001 and was called’Pony Jung’, and Jeong Se-young, honorary chairman of Hyundai Industrial Development (2005, 4th son) , Sungwoo Group Honorary Chairman Jeong Soon-young (2005, 3rd son) and Halla Group Honorary Chairman Jeong In-young (2006, 2nd son) passed away one after another. In 2015, the eldest daughter, Jung Hee-young, died, and the fifth younger brother, Shin Min-young, died young at the age of 32 due to a chronic illness in Hamburg, Germany in 1962. In the early 2000s, the Pan-Hyundai family speeded up the succession work of management and passed on to the second generation using the’dream’ character, and is now moving to the third generation using the’good’ character.
