205 Chinese companies attended this year… 85% drop from the previous year
Participation in TCL and Hisense degree, transforming to the US and Korea
It was confirmed that Huawei, which is at the center of the war for technological supremacy in the US and China, is not participating in the world’s largest information technology (IT) and home appliance exhibition’CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2021′. Huawei, which has been competing for booths and launching new products side by side at CES with Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, is completely stepping out.
The number of Chinese companies participating in CES also decreased significantly. It has retreated greatly from what was once called the’China Electronics Show’ due to the large presence of Chinese companies. This year’s CES will be held online for four days starting from the 11th in local time in the eastern United States.
At CES last year, Huawei operated a booth that was 30% smaller than before without launching a new product. It was about exhibiting the foldable phone’Mate X’. From the second half of last year, it has been struggling with the supply and demand of the latest semiconductors that will be used in smartphones and communication equipment due to the United States’ strong sanctions.
According to the official website of CES 2021, the number of participating companies in China for this CES is 205, a drop of 85% from last year (1368). Among the major companies, it is known that Chinese home appliance makers TCL and Hisense are attending. The US is expected to attend 560 this year, followed by Korea with 338.
In 2018, 1551 Chinese companies, the largest ever, participated in CES and operated large-scale exhibition halls, actively targeting advanced markets such as the United States. At that time, Huawei and Baidu executives were on the stage of a keynote speech dominating the key keywords of CES.
CES is counted as one of the world’s top three IT exhibitions along with the mobile show’MWC (Mobile World Congress)’ held in Barcelona, Spain, and’IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin)’, Europe’s largest consumer electronics exhibition in Berlin, Germany. CES has the most influence on the number of participating companies and visitors among these, and due to the nature of the exhibition schedule in January, strategic new products are poured out every year.
However, in the past two years, Chinese companies have either refrained from participating in CES or have significantly reduced their size. This is because, as the trade dispute between the United States and China was on fire with technological supremacy, the level of sanctions on Chinese companies in the United States became more and more intense. The organizer of CES is the American Consumer Technology Association (CTA).
